How to Add Fantom (FTM) to Metamask
The Ethereum Blockchain has ruled the decentralized spaces we use for many years.
Don’t get us wrong - Ethereum works fine, but the gas fee usually sky-rockets its price, and transactions aren’t as fast as someone would want to.
This has created the need for other decentralized finance alternatives to overcome previous technologies with more efficient results.
As a consequence, the Fantom Blockchain presents itself as a good solution for those who value network speed and low fees based on decentralized finance and smart contracts.
However, if you want to use this third-generation blockchain, you need to connect MetaMask wallet to the Fantom Ecosystem.
In today’s blog post, we are going to show you everything you need to know about:
- How to add Fantom to MetaMask;
- Connect MetaMask to different networks;
- Understanding the Fantom Chain and Fantom Tokens.
What is the Fantom Network?
The Fantom Network (FTM) is a decentralized platform for digital assets and decentralized applications.
The Fantom Smart Contract platform and the Fantom DeFi platform have proven to be highly scalable and fully compatible with native projects on the Ethereum chain.
The Fantom Mainnet is called Fantom Opera Network, and as it happens with other networks, you need a Fantom Wallet to use all of its benefits.
Fantom (FTM) and the Fantom Ecosystem, as well as Fantom FTM tokens, can only be accessed if you connect your wallet to the Fantom Network name.
Amazing network speeds and overall stability on the Fantom Ecosystem make the Fantom Network a really good alternative to experience new DeFi opportunities.
You can learn more about the FTM Token and the Fantom Network on Fantom’s Website.
Adding Network Details to MetaMask
MetaMask natively runs on the Ethereum Network.
Consequently, if you want to get the same address of your wallet connected to different networks, you need to perform a manual process.
For instance, if you need to Add Polygon to MetaMask, the process is almost exactly the same as connecting Metamask / Fantom.
The current network won’t change by itself, so we better get to it.
Pro Tip: The MetaMask wallet also allows you to store NFTs by taking the Non-Fungible Token data from OpenSea.

How to Add Fantom to MetaMask
All networks that aren’t the Mainnet of Ethereum need to be manually added to your MetaMask wallet.
As complex as this might sound for newcomers, the process is actually pretty simple.
Without further ado, let’s do it - let’s connect MetaMask Wallet to the Fantom Network (FTM) in the blink of an eye.

Do you want to know how to do it? Read the following blog post: Connect MetaMask to PancakeSwap.
Step 1: Setup MetaMask Wallet
Firstly, download and complete MetaMask setup. As you know, there’s a MetaMask extension and there’s also a mobile app for the wallet.
Whichever version of the MetaMask wallet will work perfectly for this matter, so just do and download MetaMask.
Step 2: Tap on “Ethereum Mainnet”
Once MetaMask is already downloaded on your device and ready to go, you need to open it.
For practical purposes, we are going to show you how to do this on the browser extension since it’s easier to copy/paste the Fantom Network (FTM) information.
Step 3: Select “Add Network”
Click on the MetaMask icon, and select “ETH Mainnet.” There, an option that says “Add Network” will appear.
On mobile, you must select “Custom RPC.”
It is the same procedure and it will take you exactly to the same screen where you will input Fantom Network information.
Step 4: Complete the Fantom Network Details
Here is where you connect new networks to MetaMask, including the Fantom Network.
Type in the following information on the requested fields:
Network Name: Fantom Opera
New RPC Url: https://rpcapi.fantom.network
ChainID: 250
Symbol: FTM
Block Explorer URL: https://ftmscan.com/
Finally, click “Save” and the information will be stored.
You can now select network and switch to the Fantom Network (FTM) whenever you want.

Step 5: Transfer FTM Tokens to Your Wallet!
You can now manage the FTM token, store FTM cryptocurrency, and even stake Fantom FTM chain inside your MetaMask wallet.
Since your wallet is already connected to the Fantom Network, surfing DApps, DEXs, and DeFi tools will now be easier than ever before.
And that’s how you connect the Fantom Network to MetaMask!
Remember this can be done both from your mobile device and desktop computer.

Fantom Metamask FAQ
Is the Fantom Opera Network Safe?
Yes. Fantom Opera operates with a consensus algorithm that guarantees speed, scalability, and, more importantly, security. You can learn more about this matter on the FTM website.
Can I Add Binance Smart Chain Network to MetaMask?
Yes, you can! In order to do so, you need to complete a similar process as the one mentioned in this article.
Just go to the menu where you add a network on MetaMask and type in Binance Smart Chain details.
