Does Snapchat Show When You Half Swipe?
Privacy is everything on Snapchat. If you send a Snapchat message, and someone reads it, a delivery notification will take place on your profile.
It is imperative for the platform to let users know when read Snaps take place.
This is one privacy-related benefit that actually works great if you want to know whether the other user read your messages or not.
But as it happens in other social media platforms and networking apps, users of the app always find a way around it.
There’s a “feature” or trick called Snapchat Half Swipe that allows you to read messages without the other user knowing that you did.
But does this feature really work? You are about to find out.
In today’s post about Snap Chat, we will be talking about:
- Does Snapchat show when you Half Swipe?;
- Can you still make a Half Swipe on the Snapchat App?;
- Things you must know about Half Swiping on Snapchat.
What is Half Swiping on Snapchat?
The Half Swipe “feature” is a little trick that Snapchatters use to see a person’s message without the other person knowing that you did so.
This isn’t an official feature nor one of the primary features that Snapchat users can take advantage of on the app.
Instead, it’s more like a little hack, such as the ones that can be found in other apps on the social media space.
There are plenty of things that can be done from Snapchat’s chat window, such as Pinning a Conversation, or managing your quick settings.
Nevertheless, getting a chat Half Swiped isn’t among Snapchat’s offered privacy features.
Can You Still Do Half Swipes on Snapchat?
No. We need to be really clear with this - you cannot use Half Swipe anymore.
Back in June 2021, Snapchat released a newer version of their platform.
In the old version, you could see a chat without the other person getting a delivery notice.
Now, even if you don’t fully open the chat by doing Half Swipes, your bitmoji will appear on the screen, telling the other user that you have indeed read their message.
Does Snapchat Show When You Half Swipe?
Back in the day, it didn’t - now it does. When you used the Snapchat Half
Swipe feature back in the day, users could partially read messages without the Snapchat app telling others that you checked their messages.
It was really useful, but as we mentioned before, Half Swipe on Snapchat isn’t available anymore.
This feature allowed users to see a message before they decided to respond, but overall, this was against Snapchat’s goals.
That’s why they removed it in the new update altogether.
Now, your contact’s bitmoji will appear even if you try to Half Swipe, which makes Half Swipes useless in 2022.
Pro Tip: Are you unable to find users on your friend list on Snap Chat? Perhaps they removed you!

How to Half Swipe on Snapchat
You cannot half swipe on Snapchat anymore, but this is how you used to do so:
- You opened the Snapchat app on your phone, and went to the chat screen;
- You tapped on the top right corner of the screen, specifically, on the bitmoji tab of the conversation;
- Finally, you needed to slowly drag to the right-hand edge from the left-hand side of the screen until you could see what was written on the message they sent you.
Most apps, including Snapchat, update automatically.
If you have the current version available in 2022, you won’t be able to perform Half Swiping.
Consequently, if you want to check out some alternatives to Half Swipe on Snapchat, then you must take a look at some of the ways in which you can Open Snapchat Without Them Knowing.
1. Use an Old Snapchat Version
There’s a problem with this solution and it’s that you will always download the most recent update even if you don’t want to.
The Snapchat Play Store download page will always give you the latest update.
Consequently, you must find a pre-update version outside of the Google Play Store.
Needless to say, this method works only if you are an Android user.
But there’s a catch: even if you manage to find an apk file of a pre-June version, you will miss all the new features that Snapchat has integrated since then.
Besides, there are some shady sources that might give you a damaged app that won’t be useful to half swipe on Snapchat.
Is it really worth the risk? We don’t think so, but it is up to you.
2. Turn On Airplane Mode on Your Phone
You might as well try to see users’ messages by turning on airplane mode on your phone.
This method simply consists of turning Airplane Mode on the quick settings panel, going to the Snapchat app, and opening the message you want to read.
After you read the message, you must close Snapchat entirely, deactivate Airplane Mode, and open Snapchat again.
In theory, the other person won’t know that you didn’t read the message. It isn’t Half Swipe on Snapchat, but it is the closest thing you can get.
Now you know it - Half Swipe is not available anymore, but don’t let this stop you.
