Sent, received, and delivered icons also exist within Snapchat.

They are all different in shape and form, and their meanings are significantly different as well.

  • An Opened Icon appears whenever someone opens your message. They have the form of hollow arrows (hollow green arrow means that cash gifts were opened, hollow purple arrow for audio messages, hollow red arrow for chats without audio, and hollow blue arrow for a text chat.   • Sent icons appear when you have a sent Snap on your list. They act as a sent notification that informs you that your message was sent, but it isn’t delivered. They have the form of colored arrows. A pending status means that a grey icon will appear if the message wasn’t sent at all;
  • Delivered means Snapchat confirmed the reception of the message. They are the same as Received icons. They have the form of colored squares. Do not confuse it with the hollow red square or hollow purple square. If you have a hollow one, we are talking about viewed icons instead.

Note: Unread messages with the pending status have expiration times.

If, after a certain period of time, no one sees your message because they haven’t accepted your friend request, it will expire.

Unread Snaps expire in 24 hours in friends’ group chats and in one month if you sent the message to only one user.

Remember that you can always Unsend a Snap in case you mistakenly sent it to someone.

2. Colored Red Square

The colored red square means that the person has received a Snap or various Snaps that do not contain audio at all.
